2023 China-Japan Incense Culture Exchange Concludes Successfully

In June 2023, the Incense Culture Committee of Chinese Culture Promotion Society organized a week-long cultural exchange program in Japan.

The delegation comprising Chinese incense scholars and industry representatives participated in three major events: the "2023 China-Japan Incense Gathering" in Tokyo, an academic forum at Tokyo University, and field studies in Kyoto.

The program commenced on June 23 with an elegant incense ceremony at Tokyo China Culture Center, attended by over 100 cultural representatives from both countries. On June 24, delegates joined interdisciplinary humanities discussions at Tokyo University.

The highlight was the "First China-Japan Incense Culture Forum" on June 25 at Tokyo University, where seven experts delivered keynote speeches comparing traditional incense practices between both nations. The forum also discussed preparation for incense-related events at the 2025 Osaka Expo.

The delegation subsequently visited historic Kyoto institutions including Rokakudo Ikenobo Headquarters and Shoyeido Incense Company, exchanging knowledge about traditional incense-making techniques.

The Committee emphasized this exchange aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative's cultural cooperation goals, and pledged to continue promoting global dialogue about Eastern incense traditions.
